Improving my blizzard sorc

I have a lvl84 blizzard sorc that I use to run mepthisto, and I am building a 1pt smiter paladin to try to do ubers. So am hoping to create the sorc/smiter tag team of death and destruction. (I am not dual boxing, they are on the same account)

The problem is while the sorc can tear through mepthisto and ancient tunnels really quickly, I did not find anything of significant value, and its kinda boring. (I found dracul's gloves and a few other items I traded away for gems, but nobody seem to want anything else) So I am trying to figure out if I need to improve my strategy or my build/equipment.

I am going to try and look for games with more people in them. So far I've been mfing only in private games, and did quests and like with others. Hopefully more people would mean more drops. Should I kill baal and look for socketables in the cow level? What other areas besides AT and mephisto should be doable?

Finally the build: lvl 84 blizzard sorc, so my skills are 1pt warmth, teleport, static, and the rest blizzard(with synergies). I have full Tal's set and spirit shield, but I did not socket, or improved it in any way. My merc has some random stuff I found, Insight polearm, goldskin armor and crown of thieves helm. If I am trying to help my smiter with my sorc would it be better to stay with this build or respec to something else, perhaps other builds are easier to key run with?

Also keep in mind I am gear limited, so uber gg gear is out of the question right now, cause I am not botting or buying or d2jsping anything if I can help it. Thanks!|||Quote:

Such is the nature of magic finding in Diablo 2. How many runs have you done? You need to do hundreds to thousands and you will find good stuff.

Definitely run cows for socketables. Base items for runewords are very valuable. Cows also are a good source of charms and runes. If you run cows, don't wear MF.

Pure blizzard is fine for item hunting. You could switch to a ice/fire hybrid and be able to run just about every area in the game to mix things up a bit. Either way, though, item hunting is what it is, but there are plenty of builds you can do with items traded for pgems.|||The Tal set is a very good (or the best) setup for dual-element builds, so that's certainly something you can try. Although you can run most areas you'll probably find it a bit slow compared to Blizz, and really at your level running meph/AT/cows is the most effective way of gaining wealth. Definitely try to MF in fuller games, as the jump in drops is significant (not-so-much for bosses though). Just take note that players that aren't close to you and partied only contribute 1/2 to the player count, so only every second player that joins will make a difference. Past "/p5" games the gain isn't much, so try to stick to games with either 2 or 4 other players.

If Blizz is terribly boring though (I'm so glad I never have to touch it again) by all means try a meteorb or lightning/FO sorc. After all, you're playing to enjoy the game.|||While this is the Sorc Forum, I would suggest you make a Fishymancer Necro, which can MF every place efficiently naked, so are great for low budget starters.

Without an Infi on your Merc, Sorc are mainly limited Boss runners, which is the most frustratin form of MFing.|||Quote:

This is ofc so far from the truth that its not even funny.|||Luck and patience, that's the thing about MFing.

The only sensible improvement I can think of is to add a bit of MF = socket some ptopazs and an ist. Mind you the complete Tal set has a decent bonus anyway.

Any kill speed improvement is going to cost, with Tals you should be set already, its about the best cost effective setup for a MF sorc. Just need to grind away at the MF runs.|||In terms of building wealth (not sure if you're ladder or not though), I used to to key runs. Flog the keys + runes on D2JSP. You can do the same, but just trade them off as sets for whatever rune they go for these days

Light sorc would be best, which can also run pits/eld/shenk/cows/pindle to mix it up |||So on my first cow run I accidentally killed the cow king, so that sucks!

Doesn't the lightning sorc need infinity to be effective? Infinity is probably far out of my reach right now.|||Quote:

Absolutely not no, 8 player games, perhaps.

In 1 player games (enough for key runs really, the chances of dropping 3 at once are slim anyway...), light sorcs will rip Carry a LR charge wand if you can get one
