Newbie Orbitaller Question

Hi,

I just saw an Orbitaller guide, and will be playing up an untwinked character with it on /p8 single-player. I have one question about it.

It basically suggests building up fire bolt and fireball a lot and then swapping to Frozen Orb as a main attack at 30. I thought that post 1.10 you couldn't really do this due to needing lots of synergies to make up for higher life monsters. Does frozen orb as described in that build really work through /p8 hell (on the non-cold immunes, I mean) without full synergies?

No. You can't expect to make an untwinked hybrid sorc and then comfortably do p8. It holds true for 99% of all builds, and there wouldn't be much point in the game if you could.|||Also the synergy for Frozen Orb adds very little damage. So most people would rather put their skill points into the Fire or Lightning trees and get better returns (more % damage added through synergies) with their skill points.|||If my goal then is to create a sorc that can solo hell in /p8, should I go with full blizzard sorc, no frozen orb, and get an act5 or act2 merc for cold immunes? There is no build in the game that can efficiently solo /p8 in Hell untwinked, and as Stephan said, there'd be little point in the game if there was a build that could, as that build would then be completely item-independent and item hunting is indeed the point of endgame.

You can definitely get by with an Orbitaller untwinked in Hell on /p1 or /p2, but ramping up the dial all the way to max is going to require some better-than-random gear|||^ What everyone else said and more about this...

...the answer is no aswell. Untwinked means untwinked merc, which will be hardly able to kill immunes in p1, let alone p8|||Quote:

hdin and blizz sorc are pretty close to being p8 killing machines untwinked, at least with the ladder runewords

Immunes arent that important.. except for the few unique monsters in hell that are necessary for passing quests, still a small problem.|||Well he said solo Hell, by that I understand killing most mosnters and doing all quests. Killing Coutess' mob for example is hard time with untwinked merc. Teleing non stop and anihilating specific monsters for MF is another whole thing though. Don't know what are his targets.|||For destroying everything hdin works great p8.. with dual spirits. and is even better in sp with not knowing maps beign less of an issue|||What is "hdin"? Also, since it sounds like it's (quite reasonably) not a build for hell /p8 untwinked, what /players settings in nightmare/hell would the Orbitaller be good for?
