Just wondering here what you guys' take on energy shield is, i am making a pure light sorc solely for countess and meph farming, once im very comfortable with that, in the future, i might add more bosses and whatnot, either way, at the moment im only focusing on those two.
So, last ladder i had an orber farming meph extremely effectively with about 400mf, but i was always annoyed by having to let my merc kill the entire countess room each time i went to do her, especially since he for some reason consistently picked the countess last. back then i was using energy shield, mainly because with 20 orb and CM, my dmg was pretty much not gonna change anyways, so spending some points on security was an obvious choice.
this time though, as i mentioned, im making a light sorc, and im sitting here looking at their skill tree, wondering wether to spend 21 points on kinesis/ES, or to spend them on a synergy.. what i got atm is:
20 in lightning/chainlight./light. mastery
10 in teleport
1 in static
1 in warmth
1 in shiver armor
1 in prereqs
thats 78 points, so with quests rewards and a little leveling im thinking ill end up somewhere around an additional 20 points before i start farming it up, which leaves me with the question, nova/charged bolt, or energy shield?
on my cold sorc it always seemed like shiver armor was enough to get me out of anywhere, without taking any hits (with decent fcr and fbr), but as a lightsorc, ill need a whole lot more +skills, which leaves me with less room for stacking my defenses, and im worried about running into some hax bosspack thatll instagib me. the thing is, with the additional points in vit rather than energy, it might balance itself out a bit.
thanks for any help you can give me, i'd especially love to hear from someone who've used a lightsorc to farm countess, since im pretty farmiliar with the mobs that spawn in durance, but never really tele'd much through cellar.
thanks!|||putting points into energy is dangerous, but on a regular max block build the 20 tk can hel quite a bit, more reaction time to alt+f4 out of scary packs|||In softcore I go for equal amounts of life and mana with 1pt ES and TK rather than just max vit. You need that boost in mana to be able to tele around and spam lightning w/o using mana pots. It's a little dangerous, but if you don't play too aggressively you're fine.
It would help if you mention what kind of gear you've got|||well, i havent got any gear yet, as im still leveling it, but ill be aiming for an 8 frame hit recovery, a 6 frame block recovery, and likely an 8 frame teleport, basically, enough to teleport safely with no chance of getting tele locked.
the question is wether i'll be killed in 1-2 quick hits from an extra strong mob or not, if i can survive it with above 50% hp, it doesnt seem like a big enough danger to warrant 20 points in kinesis.

and amp doesn't change mana damage from energy shield, with max TK you lose .75 mana per damage absorbed regardless of your resistances, physical resistances or amplify damage.

countess is a pain though cause of really nasty archer packs. if i were doing that i'd go BOTH maxblock and max Telekinesis for sure.
i have a softcore sorc that runs countess (and also nihl and summoner, she's a keyrunner). My gear sucks bad (new ladder lol) but she's maxblock/ES/maxTK so she doesn't die.. much... but then again i don't really go out of my way to not die (i never alt f4 and "i'm going to pick up that hel rune countess dropped, fanatacism mana burn archer pack be damned")
then again playing HC on bnet would drive me crazy-- what do you do with lagspikes?
P.S. why the hell are you putting 10 points in teleport? just chug mana pots.|||i�ve had a sorc like this in 1.12
with max block, base ES, max tk and rest into light skills she was a very durable build. never had any close calls once the gear was set, but also never had the huge dmg. i ended with 17k light dmg, which is really enough to farm everything, even baal in 3 player games.
i�d go for "multiple-layers" of security with light absorb, max block, high fhr, high life (ignore ene totally) and high dr (storm)
so if ur mana gets burned, and it will most likely, u�re not left with a fragile lil girl, but someone who kicks-*** nevertheless|||the reason for 10 in teleport is i'd like to reach less than 5 manacost, with a low enough manacost manaburns arent really a problem, and on my last meph runner, it often came in handy being able to just teleport onwards even after getting burned
my main security lies in not getting tele locked in any way, high enough frc, fhr, and fbr, along with never being unable to tele, makes it virtually impossible for any mob not able to instagib me, to kill me, so thats what im aiming for on this sorc as well, having to exit game each time i get burned in the middle of a fana pack would be a pain :P
at the moment though im leveling charged bolt, with 1 in tele+TK, and it doesnt look like i'll have many points to spare when im done, so i dunno, if my tele mana cost is low enough when i got some gear, i guess ill start pumping TK

You're gear should really be able to reduce the mana cost once its set since it should give you plenty of softpoints. Granted, thanks to the respec one no longer needs to be extra careful with point distribution.
