Blizzard/Fire Wall Untwinked Sorceress

So, I restated my pure blizzard sorceress to blizzard/firewall. I though I could share my experiences, because I was rather impressed.

I'm using rather low gear, my best items are a spirit monarch (thanks to that armor stand near mephisto, that dropped me a white monarch) and a snowclash the lord of hatred himself dropped. The rest are a spirit sword, a lore circlet, a smoke armor and mf magic/rare boots, gloves, amulet and rings. Also i keep every +life charm I find

I can run literally everything, except baal, but I'm considering adding them to the mix. I do andariel, countess, mephisto, summoner, diablo and pindle with no problem.

My skill points are (currently level 81, but I gained ~5-6 levels from magic finding):

20 Glacial Spike (Chose this over ice blast because freezing monsters in AoE works wonders, especially in chaos sanctuary).

20 Blizzard

~15 Cold Mastery, and I'm putting level-up points here

20 Firewall

1 Fire Mastery

1 Teleport

1 Warmth

1 Static

The Holy Freeze merc works wonders coupled with firewall. I traded a high damage polearm and made insight to deal with countess, collector of souls and lord de seis (when they are spawning fire & cold immune). He cannot die if I spend a charge from my life tap wand I keep on switch, coupled with milabrega's orb for +20% magic find when killing boses.

Damage is: ~2000 Blizzard and ~3100 fire wall.|||The damage seems meh (as it generally is with dual-tree builds), are you running all of these areas in a priv game?

I do most of my runs in full or near full games (for both exp and increased drop rate) and the damage this build deals doesn't seem like it would be sufficient. My pure blizz sorc (4.8k blizz atm) has no problem killing monsters, and merc+static usually dispatches cold immunes quickly enough.

I don't mean to hate on the build, it just seems like the damage is going to limit you to priv runs (at least this early in the ladder, until you get some decent gear) where the drop rate is fairly crappy.|||Quote:

Yes, I'm mfing alone. Mainly because I fail to find full games that people actually stay or the main mf targets are not already gone. Also note that my gear is below average |||I think Shaigon has a method of running with the baal bots so that he can mf while they do their thing. This gives him an 8 player game that he can pick all the loot in the world from.

I'm curious about doing a firewall/orb build myself or something similar. I tried Orb + Hydra after being pure light. Pure light kill speed was much faster. I can kill everything now, mostly without even the merc... but, when it comes to kill speed, I'm struggling. I don't know that hydra can do much except for help with bosses that stay in one place. It seems fun to have 10 or so up at once hitting andy 20-30 times a second at 400-500 damage each, but even so firewall's damage would probably exceed anything from hydra.

I was running the pits with light and was becoming increasingly annoyed by the light immunes. It seems like it was better to just skip the light immunes and enjoy the superior kill speed.

Is there a reliable way to take immunes? I don't think blizzard gets enough synergies when you spec into other trees to really do a good amount of damage.|||Quote:

Now that bots are up, I've done the trick myself, too. My personal favorite are Diablo runs: I can run Mephisto and Nihlathak and I get back into the Diablo run when Vizier is down or a little before Vizier dies.

That's the great thing about firewall: the damage is great even with low investiture. I've got 24 points into firewall and they are damn effective, giving me a skill that does over 3.500 damage (3.731 to be precise) with only +7 to all skills.|||From my experience with Sorcs, I just look at the skill points spent by the OP, and think "If he had gone with Frozen Orb instead of Blizzard, he could save 20 points of the synergy (FO works fine w/o it) and shift it over to pumping up his Firewall even more (maxing Fire Mastery maybe, or Warmth since points there help with mana regen for ALL your spells).

FO, Firewall, and Static Field. Even worst case scenario Cold/Fire Immune you could Static them down quite a bit for your merc, the rest of the time you have a way to deal. I know Blizzard really shines for a single tree build, since you can super pump it's synergies, but I don't know if I would want to try an under-synergized Blizzard paired with an under-synergized Firewall. In this day and age of tight points for builds, FO is about the best skill for lowest points spent.
