Hi all. So this ladder so far I have my Orbitaller going with a full Tals set. I am lvl 84 and have been mfing runs of Andy/Countess/Pit/Summoner/Meph/CS/and Diablo. I am wanting to break the cycle of what I have been doing for a long time and start doing more area runs and less boss hunting. I have been thinking about starting to run keys/cows and using my up and coming smiter for organ/Ubering.
I have been debating on respecing to a Chainlight/FO mix and using my full Tals set. Obviously a pure light sorc with Infinity is 10x better but I have to make do with what I have. I only have 1 respec available before I have to start dipping into tokens, so does anyone have any suggestions for a good skill breakdown? Or does anyone have any knowledge of this kind of build? I figure I will still have good resists and mf with Tals and can hit 117FCR with just a ring switch. Would this type of switch even be beneficial to me considering what I want to do with it? What would be the areas to focus on running and which ones would I want to avoid?
Current idea for skills is:
20 FO
20 Ice bolt
?? Cold Mastery
20 Chain light
20 Light mastery
Remaining points into a light synergy

I was coming from Orbitaller so still have the thinking of FO main attack. Now lightning would be the main with FO the backup, so it would make sense to have chain lightning synergies needing to be boosted more. I haven't messed around with a lightning build in a VERY long time so not as up to date on them as I could be.|||Actually, assuming you're going full Tal-Rasha, frozen orb will be pretty reliable, even without the ice bolt synergy. On the other hand, lightning skills require synergies and many +skills to be that reliable, or at least that's how I see it, contrary to fireball, which does respectable damage, even on ~30 hard skill points.

This advice is exactly spot on.
The synergy from Ice Bolt is actually a pretty pathetic dmg increase. Frozen Orb is either gonna do quite well on most mobs, or it's gonna completely suck... Ice Bolt synergy or not.
I would make sure my Cold Mastery was in the sweet spot before ANYTHING else, and then I would concentrate on other synergies that actually provide some better dmg returns. Listen to Theio!!|||Hi everyone, this will be my first post here. ^-^

Having been playing this build for weeks now since the new ladder started, I have to say it is a pretty solid build to go with Full Tal Rasha set. The orb comes with a variable of 1-2 in each of the three sorc tree masteries (naturally I bought a Tal Rasha orb with +2 cold & lightning mastery) which further enhances your skills and has the following which works fantastically with a dual tree sorc.

-15% To Enemy Lightning Resistance (4 Items)
+15% To Cold Skills Damage (Complete Set)
You may have noticed that I have chosen to give more importance to the Lightning tree, because in my opinion, it has the skill that does the most damage, and have chosen only to max frozen orb and keeping cold mastery at -100 res for mobs.
Having read multiple guides regarding sorcs, this is the combination I have decided to go with. My game play experience is pretty great, having decent mf, and kill power/speed to go with it. The Tal Rasha orb actually does it job well in having a natural -15% lightning resist on mobs and +15% cold skill damage. I have tried tweaking my gear around with shako, occy, etc. But the end result is only a marginal increase in overall skill points enhancement, but suffering from the lack of +dmg & -mob resistance from Tal Rasha's orb (not to mention a whole bunch of other benefits from the full set; ie 65 resistance from the set+helm, 25% fhr, 150 life, etc).
With this build I can clear hell games without much difficulty, and there is usually very little immunes that I am not able to kill together with my merc who is only using an ethereal Partizan insight. I can clear Chaos Sanctuary, World Stone (all the way up to Baal), Mephisto, Andy, Arcane Sanctuary, Countess, Pits, Ancient Tunnels, etc.
My usual routine starts with paving the way with a blast from Frozen Orb, and followed by Chain Lightning (if the mobs are scattered) or Lightning (if the mobs are somewhat tightly packed together). For simplicity sake, it is FO-L-L-FO-L-L, etc.

14 Charged Bolts: 95-117 damage
My final gear are: Full Tal Rasha set, Spirit monarch, Chanceguards, Wartravellers, 2x Nagelrings, 3x 50'ish mana GCs, 1x Light skill charm, 1x Cold skill charm.
(No torch & anni at the present)
As a whole it isn't a cookie cutter build, but it is definitely hell viable and a fun way to break out of a regular meterorb sorc build.

Welcome to the forums! Thank you for your insight as well. I recently made the respec and it's going nicely. Compared to my Orbitaller setup its similar in damage but just does it....well...differently. There are some places where the FB works better than lighning/chain and vice versa.
Overall I am enjoying it as I like just chainlightning rooms now and FO the left overs. I think as I pump more into lightning synergies, (lvl 85 and no +skill charms, anni, or torch yet), the damage will go up nicely. I can't say that its a better build or a worse build, just that its comparable and plays a little differently. It has been a fun and viable switch so far.|||Quote:

I have to agree that a CL/FO build isn't worse or better than your regular meterorb build, it's just different. Anyways, I have further updates after enhancing my gear.

Full Gear: Full Tal Rasha set, Spirit monarch, Chanceguards, Wartravellers, 1x Nagelrings, 1x SOJ, 1x Light skill charm, 1x Cold skill charm, 1 low Storch, 1 Anni.
22 Cold Mastery: -125% cold resistance to mobs
34 Frozen Orb: 547-574 cold damage
36 Lightning Mastery: 470% extra damage to lightning skills
34 Chain Lightning: 5-5709 damage (arcing 11 times)
34 Lightning: 5-12,218 damage
20 Charged Bolts: 169-194 damage
You may have noticed that I have chosen to remove the 3x 50'ish mana GCs, and with my mana capacity enhanced by SOJ's +25% mana capacity, I felt it was worth the reduction of 28% MF from one of my Nagelrings. As a whole I am able to hit slightly over 400% MF with my current gear plus a couple of MF charms in my inventory.
The additional +5 skills from the Anni+Storch+SOJ boosted my overall damage to Lightning by over 4000 damage and around 1400 damage with Chain Lightning. At the present, I have a 500'ish FO damage which is huge considering how strong it really is when the orb explodes inside any particular boss. And a 12k damage Lightning attack, which is nothing to scoff about considering that I am using a dual tree sorc, as compared to a pure Lightning sorc. On a whole, I do feel that I am able to clear bosses and areas at a much faster rate, and still maintain a decent amount of MF.
This in my opinion shows that a CL/FO build really shines when you have more + skills (obviously), but also gains the full set modifiers from from Tal's Orb.

As to the play style of this build, Chain Lightning is a shoot and go kinda skill, and it saves on the need to really take all the mobs in the area into account, as the skills targets the next mob within range and zaps the next. I have also noticed that I am able to tank wraiths much better than before due to having my cold/lightning resist max'ed and fire/poison nearly there. I think there aren't many current builds and/or gear setup that is able to achieve this and still maintain a high damage output, MF, survivability and FHR (or I could be wrong).
