One of the characters I have in the pipeline is going to be a lightsorc (single tree is fun

CB is less synergy-intensive than typical lightning, so I'm going to use the remaining points to experiment some with Energy Shield since I picked up a white staff with +3 ES earlier this ladder. I've never built an ES sorc before though.
If anyone has had previous experience with a similar build to share (or just an ES build in general), I'd appreciate any guidance regarding the following (this is SC):
1) Resistances - I know elemental damage is applied to ES before resistances, so do people just ignore it and run around Hell with negative resists, carry antidotes and stack PDR/MDR? Or should I try for a respectable level of resists regardless?
2) Shield - I haven't decided on her shield as of yet. I like Spirit though it would need a lot of points tossed into strength that would otherwise not be used. Lidless Wall would look good if resists really aren't an issue with the +mana. Neither are particularly good blocking shields though, and as a single tree sorc she will be teleporting a lot in hell.
She hits the 105 FCR bp regardless of shield choice.
I've also been thinking of going max block with Gerkes (slow blocking though) or potentially Whitstans/Viscetaurant/Mosers. Anyone who played an ES sorc have perspective on the usefulness of blocking? Is having a bit of PDR/MDR from Gerke's worthwhile with lvl 40 Energy Shield/max TK?
3) What about stat allocation? I'm assuming it's generally str for gear, enough dex for blocking (if applicable) and then everything else in Energy? Even with the relatively low damage bleeding through ES is a base Vit sorc survivable enough?
