Occulus - POS?

[:1]Ok, I found the Occulus on a MF Baal run and was psyched. It's what everyone wishes they had, +3 sorc right? Right. That darn thing has got me killed more times than I would have and it's all due to that 25% teleport when hit. Who's idea was that? Dang if that does not teleport me right into the thick of things and I get slammed and die, happens quite a lot. I am ready to get rid of it. It's not worth it loosing experience points and $500,000 every time I die. Grrrrr.

Thanks for letting me vent. Anything better for a sorc than the Occulus? Can whatever you are recommending be found in NM? (assumming I have the MF and patience).

I mean, fire and lightning are the elements that already get near infinite +% skill damage, and then they think you need even more from a wep?

Bah, that sucks, but the whole Oculus tele = bad is way overblown imo. I use it often on my sorcs (max block and non), and have yet to be killed by it. If anything it's bailed me out of quite a few bad situations. It IS annoying at times, to be sure, but I've never found it to be dangerous. Just have to expect it and be be ready to roll with it when it happens.

One thing that may help is getting more FHR, if you don't have much. That's the one case I can think of that would make it more dangerous.|||why are you getting hit??? you are a sorc.. you are not supose to get hit.|||Occulus is a great weapon for a sorc up until level 80 to 90 sort of range. This is because:

1) It has alot of nice bonuses which are good for a sorc like +skills, +fcr, +res and big +MF all in one package.

2) Every Occy is the same so you are guaranteed to get the same package of nice bonuses. On the other hand you can get a real duff Eschutas. How many +1 low negative res Eschus have you found? I've found one already this ladder and it was so bad I had to give it away.

3) Occy is dirt cheap. You can get it early and use it all the way through nightmare (level 42 req ). A good Eschutas can get quite expensive and you won't be able to use it until level 72 by which time you will be in Hell anyway.

4) Dying and losing exp before level 85 is not really a huge deal since you can gain it back quickly. It is much worse to die after level 92+ because then a single death can cause you to lose hours and later on days worth of exp.

This is obviously softcore. In hardcore I would never use Occy. Not even with max block because even though death by Occy teleport is rare if you are max blocking (it has only killed me once in the past 2 months) it is still too common when you only have 1 life.

Eschutas is great for damage and fcr but you will be hurting for res and MF and may need to find other items to get it from.
