[:1]Hey all. Returned to D2 after a few years off because of all the D3 buzz. That said, I just rushed through level 85 and I'm starting to get bored of following bots through Baal. I'd like to start farming on my own, and I'm wondering if I could get some advice on what "natural" path to take from here.
-My gear, if you can even call it that: +1 sorc amulet, vipermagi chest (+1 sorc and FCR), +1 sorc wand, FCR rings, Sigons Shield
-I have no FG
-I have nothing worth trading beyond a Mal Rune(Infinity...?), Um Rune and Um's Lament I found along the way...
-I picked up a bunch of low runes and PGems.
It takes about twenty minutes to clear Nightmare Diablo in about twenty minutes, so it's safe to say I'm gimped.
The obvious issues of any class are the gear and the character build. My gear is going to come slow, that's a given. I followed a Blizz/Nova build online that was obviously meant to synergize with high-level gear, so I should change this.
That said, I suppose I might start with this:
-What's the strongest Sorc build you can make without the assistance of gear? And next, where should I begin farming? NM? Hell? Private games? Full games?
Thanks a bunch for any advice.|||hmm sorcs are very gear dependent if you plan on using them through nm and hell... but i would have to say a metoerorb sorc would be the best... and there are some bots that don't pick up loot, and other don't pick up the right things... i'd follow them a bit more till you can get tal rasha pieces|||Yeah I forgot about that when I came back.
I'll check out at MeteOrb tutorial in the mean time.
Will it be able to solo anywhere as I get bored with following the bots?|||assuming you've picked up a decent amount of pgems, rals, spirit runes and that sort of thing, you should probably have enough to trade for full tal set. After that most builds will work.
Pure blizzard is good, pure light is actually fine even without infinity (depending on what runs you want to do)
I got back into the game relatively recently too, and I'm running a pure light sorc with tal's doing keyruns (countess, summoner, nilithak) and it's just fine.
Meteorb will be more versatile, but kill slower than blizzard or light.|||Thanks for the replies so far.
I'll look into the Spirit runes and be sure to stock up on em.
Do you do key runs in private games?|||Quote:

You can do them in baal games, or private games. I found doing them in baal games kind of annoying because half the time the bots would run the keys and the other half the time somebody else in the game was trying to do it, so I mostly run them in private games now.|||Was following a bot in Baal runs while eating Thai food, checking in to get loot from Baal.
Just got Tal Rasha's Helm, followed by Eschuta's (+3 , 15L, 10F, 26energy)
Yee!|||Which of these will be better for having poor gear?

Aren't they both essentially based on a similar build?
Startup sorcs should be relatively easy to build since your offensive capabilities comes from your skills & survivability mostly coming from having enough resistance, and knowing how and where to tele smartly; even for hell games. I would say a dual tree sorc will be sufficient for running hell baal and other bosses. The most common tried and tested builds will have to be cold/fire sorcs; with meterorb being in the forefront in terms of popularity and feasibility when it comes to having less than satisfactory gear.
The other dual tree sorc variants I know of; such as CL/Orb & Blizzballer are decent even for a starter build, but these two imo benefit from having better gear and more importantly +skill gears to. While they are viable builds for experienced players, their lack of popularity amongst newer players do sometimes mean a lack of know-how on their skill progression as they are leveled.
Your safest bet would be to start with a meterorb sorc build and build up your item wealth to equip her better. And perhaps start a new character using the other variant builds should you enjoy playing a sorc and wish to try something new.
As for gear, I would strongly recommend any that offers +skill to enhance your dmg, and resist to keep your character safe in hell games. Def isnt entirely necessary if you tele smartly and know when to back-off when facing throngs of mobs. Tal rasha set is definitely something I would shoot for since they shouldn't cost too much these days on any of the realms. An ist or two will likely get you the whole set. Some even give the pieces away for pgems if they are charm rollers with spare tal set pieces laying around.|||Thanks a bunch for the words!
Regarding the two links, the main difference is whether or not to put remaining points into Fire Bolt or Fire Mastery. I just split them down the middle for now.
