I want to build an ES keyrunner.. need your help!

[:1]So, I have obsession with sorcs, and there's one build I've never tried.. Enery Shield. I have a basic idea what my gear would look like, but I'm not sure on:

How many skillers for PvM?

What Breakpoints to hit (FHR/FCR/FBR?)

Maxblock or not?

How to get 95%ES?

What skill to use for damage (Light/CL/Nova)?

What would be the most identical gear for this.

Thanks in advance.

*Uppislol|||Softcore? Hardcore? Any skills in particular you'd like to use?

The best keyrunners would be lightning based as they can hit all bosses without their mercs. (none of the key bosses is innately lightning immune; the countess is always fire and cold immune). It doesn't stop you from doing it though but having to rely on your merc to kill the countess every single time kind of sucks, unless he has amazing gear.

Anyway, your typical skill setup will pretty much require 20 hard points into telekinesis. If you're playing pure lightning, you won't need to max out energy shield; Fire and Cold sorcs will need 20 TK/20 ES to reach skill level 40 (95% ES). The last ES sorc I did was a frozen orb sorc for hardcore. Her gear and skill setup was something like this:

cold skills:

20 Ice Bolt

1 Ice Blast

1 Glacial Spike

1 Frost Nova

1 Blizzard

20 Frozen Orb

1 Cold mastery

45 pts total

Fire skills:

1 warmth

1 pt total

Lightning skills:

1 charged bolt

1 lightning

1 chain lightning

20 telekinesis

20 Energy Shield

1 static field

1 teleport

45 pts total

Total points for the build: 91 points, or character level 79 with all the quests for extra skill points done. I dumped all leftover points into Cold Mastery. Since it was hardcore, I also went with maxblock to further maximize my survivability.

Gear was as follows:

helm: Nightwing's veil (cold facet in socket)

ammy: Mara's Kaleidoscope

weapon: Wizard Spike (had a 15 all resists jewel I believe)

armor: Up'd Vipermagi (Um rune in socket)

shield: Stormshield (best option for survivability with 35% DR)

glove: Magefist

belt: Arachnid Mesh

rings: dual sojs

boots: Silkweave

As you can see, that build is very focused on things that are key to hardcore play (crapton of resists; max block shield; fastest fcr breakpoint for teleporting; etc.). I'm sure there is something to be said about faster block rating so you won't get blocklocked, but that sorc is still parked in NL nowadays, at level 92 or so (I never had the patience to level characters too much).

The weapon switch included a pretty much mandatory memory staff for prebuffing, which paired with anni+torch gave me level 41 ES (one level above 95% ES with no CtA buff). All that using no skillers whatsoever. I used the leftover inventory space to fill my FHR using small charms with +life on them as I had to invest somewhat heavily on str for my shield and dex for my max block.

I'm sure a similar gear setup would work for lightning as well (replace nightwings with Griffon's and the magefist with Frostburns and you're set pretty much) and you would then have a kick *** key runner.

Good luck!|||It's for softcore. I find going for Resist and DR a bit silly, considering both of them affect after ES absorb has been done. I had a light build in mind, it's my favourite way of doing a sorc. I had the idea of going for a lot of PDR would be fun, IDK why. Here's the setup I had been thinking:

Griffon Sol

Mara's , or 2/FCR Stats amu, haven't decided, depends on shield. (Was also considering 95+/100+ Life/Mana amu)

Tyrael's Might Sol

Spirit Monarch OR Whistans Sol/Sur (need to decide if Maxblock)

Heart of the Oak Flail

Frostburns or Magefists, depends on setup.

2x SoJs or FCR rings, if needed for BP

Eth Treks.

Merc:

Infy

Eth Gaze/Andy depending on setup

Forti/Stone/Eth Up Shaft (haven't decided)

On switch either memory or CTA + Spirit/Lidless (if MB).

What I'm interested in, is the Max block a good enough reason to pass up 100+ Mana and skills from spirit? Also, how could I change my setup?

*Uppislol|||Max block for softcore is absolutely unnecessary as dying has zero consequences, and Spirit is just too good to pass up when you consider that dying is not an issue. Neither is max resists (the reason I went for it in spite of ES was mana burn monsters, I absolutely did not wanted to be caught with my pants down) so your setup looks pretty good.

Since you're going lightning, If you can get your hands on it, I would greatly recommend a CtA Staff made on a +3 energy shield base (the absolute wet dream base staff imo would be +3 ES and +3 to one of the cold armors). You will get less than CtA + lidless in terms of skills for Battle orders, but you won't need to do multiple switches to cast all your prebuffs and ES.

If I may ask, why HoTO? isn't eschuta's a better alternative since it gives the same FCR, more damage and resists aren't really an issue?

Also, If I remember right PDR ES sorcs need at least 100+ Pdr so gerke's sanctuary shield is something to consider, as is Gladiator's bane (not sure why you're going with tyrael's. Just for style points?)|||Quote:

Hoto for Rep life. When I tested ES years ago, I liked to have some Rep. life with it. Also it helps to cap poison resist. Tyraels is for Rest in peace mod, comes handy with nihlatak. I don't really like the idea of going full PDR (If I did I'd do it some other way) but I've heard every bit helps. Maybe I should just socket some Mana jools instead of Sols? Needs testing..

Also, good point on the CTA.

For rep life use prayer merc. It gives you more then you can achieve with items.
